Welcome to this week’s meeting of the eClub of the State of Jefferson.

I am Bob Gibson, President of the Rotary eClub of State of Jefferson. Welcome to this week’s meeting.

I hope this finds you well.

We had another successful Coffee Chat on Tuesday. The conversation ranged from the status of our service projects, auto-driving Tesla automobiles, the extraordinary heat, and the possibility of reviving the Business-to-Business project. Again, this is an effort to strengthen fellowship within our Club. I am finding it interesting and rewarding.

We are moving ahead with plans for a District-wide Zoom meeting regarding a project to fund landmine-warning signs in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kharkiv in Ukraine. Our Club will lead this meeting. We are working directly with Yulia Pavichenko, President of the Ukraine Club. That area of Ukraine has been subject to direct missile attacks in the last few days. As I write this, we are waiting for confirmation that she is okay. Her lack of response is uncharacteristic. This brings home the urgency of their situation.

We have two other service projects. Our work with the Navajo Nation continues. Bruce and Jean administer grant applications and reports that keep us involved and on track with the Solar Light Project, the bookmobile and the book vending machine. DeVere has championed a literacy project in Uganda. We will be submitting an application for an “action” grant from the District. Your Club is active in many areas. The common thread in every project is a passionate Rotarian.

In his thoughtful manner, Bruce Garrett produces our weekly programs. Last week’s program about our country’s history with lynching was important. I believe it is critical to acknowledge the challenges that our country has faced. Prejudice and bigotry have a difficult time surviving when exposed. The designation of the Emmitt Till and Mamie Till-Mobley National Monument created the timely opportunity to run the program. Thank you, Bruce.

Thank you for your interest in our Club and your commitment to “Service above Self.”

Enjoy the meeting.
