Welcome to this week’s meeting of the eClub of the State of Jefferson.
I am Bob Gibson, President of the Rotary eClub of State of Jefferson. Welcome to this week’s meeting. I hope this finds you well.
Last week’s Board of Directors meeting was extraordinary. The majority of out time was spent discussing service projects. Jean Hamilton gave a wonderful report of her trip to Chinle, Arizona, representing our Club at a recognition event for our work with the Navajo Nation. The solar lights, bookmobile and satellite dish are being fully used. Our work with the Navajo Nation continues with our project application to support their literacy efforts.
Another member of our Club, DeVere Wolsey attended the Board meeting from Spain. He was “accompanied” by Annette Kiberu, a librarian and educator in Uganda. They presented information about their work and needs in relation to literacy and education in Uganda. I was impressed with how they are meeting the children “where they are” to provide the education. They also have plans for training educators to expand the work out into rural areas of the country. We will present more details as this develops.
Dan Smith, our member who recently traveled to Ukraine on a service expedition attended our Board meeting and gave an update on the situation in Ukraine. Of course, the situation is dynamic and shifting. The needs are overwhelming. I believe we can provide meaningful support by collaborating with other clubs and Rotary International.
I will be calling a meeting of our Club Foundation Board to discuss how our Foundation can be used to develop support for these projects. We have tools that can be applied to a wide range of projects. I have always believed that the essential attribute of any project is a passionate Rotarian. The discussions at last week’s meeting exemplified that idea.
By now, you have received the invoice for your annual dues. Each of you is a valued member and plays an important role in our Club. Thank you for responding promptly and taking care of this payment.
